I’ve been making a big effort lately to balance my everyday jeans and sneakers uniform out a bit more with dresses and some more “elevated” looks that can work well for a day in the office and beyond. While I’ll always be a jeans and a t-shirt kind of girl, I’ve really noticed that on days where I’m feeling like I’m in a bit of a slump, it really helps my mood when I put a little extra oomph in my outfit, not only in terms of the confidence boost that comes with feeling like you’re lookin’ good, but also in my energy throughout the day.

Topshop has been a jackpot lately for great dresses that are really versatile and don’t break the bank. When I spotted this fun little black dress with a twist for under $100, I had to add it to my cart immediately. The tie front detail and tulip-style skirt keeps the silhouette from being frumpy or boring, while the keyhole detail in the front adds just the right amount of sexy (although, I have had some issues with it showing my bra so I may have my dry cleaner add a small hook & eye closure near the  bottom for a little extra coverage). PLUS, if you’re already stocked in the little black dress department, it also comes in three other colors – the cobalt would be amazing for spring weddings!

Also, after YEARS of lusting over Stuart Weitzman’s over the knee boots I finally pulled the trigger on the black suede Lowland boots and guys, I totally understand the hype now. They’re really versatile the quality is amazing – I’ve been challenging myself to get as much as possible out of my investment in ’em and it’s been really fun to add them into my wardrobe, both with dressier looks like this and more casual day-to-day outfits. If you’re like me and are on the fence about spending that much money on a pair of boots I can’t recommend going for the splurge enough! They’re truly a wardrobe staple kind of piece that I know will get a lot of use for years to come and I couldn’t be happier.

PS. If you follow along on Instagram you may have noticed that I chopped my hair shorter last week but of course I shot a bunch of outfits pre-haircut, so bear with me here with the switch back and forth between long and short hair for a few weeks ;)
